The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is a globally recognized institution dedicated to modern and contemporary art, design, architecture, photography, film, and emerging media. George Sexton Associates provided artificial andnatural lighting design services to all new and renovated galleries and public spaces. The lighting design process included modeling and studies of natural daylight systems for the museum’s atrium and gallery spaces. Large-scale physical daylight modeling was utilized for the development and study of skylight systems for the top floor galleries. The lighting design was conceived through intense consultation with the design teams and the Museum’s professional staff. The intent of the lighting design was to merge lighting systems with reductive architecture to create pristine environments that merge with evocative displays of art, resulting in a heightened experience for all visitors.
