Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

George Sexton Associates provided artificial lighting design and daylight design services for galleries and public spaces for this new 150,000 sq. ft. museum designed by Tadao Ando. Diffused and reflected natural light from skylights and clerestory windows were key to providing a daylighting system that met both the architectural design intent and light exposure targets for sensitive art objects. As a result of the extensive use of glass on the building exterior, careful study of daylighting systems was necessary to control the damaging aspects of the natural light entering the galleries. By balancing natural and artificial light, each gallery is presented with unified color quality, efficiency, flexibility, and control. GSA also developed an exterior lighting design to give the new museum its night time identity, which employs the reflective qualities of the surrounding pond to blend together the interior and exterior spaces of the museum.
