The Akron Art Museum’s new addition is visually invigorating architecture, which with its integrated lighting, serves as a beacon in the downtown nightscape. The three main architectural forms that comprise the museum provide varying degrees of opacity and transparency, and are reinforced through George Sexton Associates’ lighting design. GSA provided artifcial lighting design services to all new galleries and public spaces in the museum’s new addition. The lighting systems for the galleries were designed to offer full fexibility in lighting gallery walls and artwork. The interior scope also included the bookstore, lobby and reception, auditorium, restrooms, and public circulation. GSA developed an exterior lighting scheme to give the museum its night time identity.
