ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

George Sexton Associates, LLC, an international lighting and museum design firm, seeks an administrative assistant to join its Washington, DC office on a full-time basis. The individual will support the administrative staff with a broad range of responsibilities including accounting, human resources, marketing, and general administrative functions for a staff of 20.

The creative, fast-paced nature of the firm’s work, which includes a multitude of world-class museum, commercial and residential projects, and collaborative design process cultivates a dynamic, team-oriented work environment.

The administrative assistant is encouraged to create and engage in special projects that directly contribute to the vitality of the firm, bolstering its reputation as a leader in the field of lighting design. The ideal candidate is a professional, self-motivated, and innovative problem solver with a keen attention to detail and desire to learn.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage office communications; coordinate office events; carry out general office maintenance
  • Maintain project and client information in Deltek for Professional Services (CRM system), and use Deltek to report on and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Coordinate frequent and ever-changing travel – both domestic and international – for multiple designers and projects contemporaneously
  • Support the Marketing and Proposal Coordinator with creating custom qualification packets for potential clients, drafting fee calculations and proposals, applying for design awards, and maintaining website and social media accounts
  • Assist with accounts receivable/payable by tracking office expenses and processing travel expenses
  • Maintain the office’s light laboratory inventory by processing all lighting samples coming in and out of the office and coordinating shipments with local lighting reps
  • Help with recruitment by creating job postings, registering for university career fairs, and tracking candidates’ application statuses
  • Train new staff on administrative procedures and office equipment

Job Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Deltek for Professional Services or similar CRM systems is preferred; Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and Photoshop are a plus
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work amid interruptions
  • Attention to detail, resourcefulness, and superior organization skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership for wide-ranging responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Prior office work experience
  • English proficiency (spoken and written)
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Background or interest in architecture, design, museums or the arts is a plus
  • Experience in archiving, cataloguing or record/database management is a plus

Experienced Lighting Designer

Washington, DC-based George Sexton Associates, LLC, a lighting design firm, is in search of an Experienced Lighting Designer to join its Washington, D.C. or New York City office.

 An ideal candidate would possess:

  • Excellent communication skills in order to understand design needs and specifications, including energy requirements, for lighting design projects.
  • While working on a team, ability to develop a lighting design and all lighting design documents in response to client’s specifications and needs.
  • Familiarity with commercial lighting fixtures and ability to select appropriate fixtures for projects in order to meet the client’s requests.
  • Ability to develop architectural drawings that will ultimately be included in the final planset.
  • Understanding of whether or not lighting installations are occurring in compliance with the design documents and ability to work to rectify issues that arise in order to satisfy the client.

Required qualifications: Degree in lighting design, architecture, or related field and 2 to 5 years of experience in the lighting design field. Required skills: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Microsoft Office, COMCheck, daylight design, energy code compliance, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit and final aim and adjust on site.  Employer is willing to accept any equivalent combination of experience and education.

Preferred qualifications: Project or Program Management experience.

Architectural Lighting Designer

George Sexton Associates is seeking to hire a creative, ambitious individual to add to our collaborative design team. The work involves design and production for world-class museums, commercial and residential projects. Some travel is involved. There is opportunity for advancement. Lighting, Engineering and/or Architecture degree is required plus a demonstrated experience in AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and AGI32 Software.
